Edith Odubo's dedication to community service and her deep concern for the well-being of children and families have driven her to a career in social services. She envisions a future world devoid of suffering. She firmly believes that our individual efforts to assist one another and the community are significant and will ultimately lead to the impactful change we seek. Her guiding principles are reflected in her favorite sayings: "See a need, meet the need," and "The ability for the eagle to fly is instilled within it before it hatches." Edith is convinced that we, as humans, have the inherent ability to fulfill our dreams, spread happiness, and better the world. She obtained her associate degree in social work from Harrisburg Area Community College and subsequently earned her bachelor's degree in social work from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. She has received certifications in various specialized programs, notably those serving families with intellectual disabilities and older adults. Ms. Edith's extensive experience spans years of service to children and families in both the private and public sectors, including roles in public casework and childcare as an entrepreneur. Driven by her passion, she has volunteered with various child-focused organizations and programs, seeking to enhance our collective ability to support one another. Her dedication includes participation in community and professional development efforts, notably the Legislative Education and Advocacy Day (LEAD), hosted annually by the National Association of Social Workers, Pennsylvania Chapter (NASW-PA). This event brings together social work students and professionals to champion pertinent legislation and promote laws benefiting individuals, families, and communities. She has participated in the Poverty Simulation Project, which aims to educate those assisting low-income families and political leaders about poverty, fostering awareness and initiating discussions on addressing this issue. Edith has consistently devoted several hours each year to the Harrisburg Project Homeless Connect, providing outreach, services, and housing to the homeless in Dauphin County and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She has also dedicated many years to teaching the significance of reading through her role as the facilitator of the Leaders are Readers book club, which engages young children and teenagers. Additionally, she has extensive experience working with children in a religious context as a classroom teacher.
